The Royal mountain range of the Andes is located at east of La Paz the city, the central part of these group of mountains is the most attractive area for visitors from all over the world, TRANS ANDES, is the trekking that cover the integrity of this part of the mountain range, the southern side.

The most impressive mountains are in this section, as Illampu, Jancko Uma, Chachacomani, Condoriri and Huayna Potosi, beautiful glaciers and high altitude lakes, are also appreciated on this hike.

PART 1: Sorata-Khota tiya
  • The steps are an elevation of 4750 meters above sea level on average.
  • Walks of 6 to 7 hours per day, including breaks.
  • Base camps on average 4400 meters.

PART 2: Khota tiya- Zongo

Summary program

DAY 1: Arrival in the city of La Paz, transfer, hotel accommodation and briefing.
DAY 2: City tour of La Paz, Plaza de Armas, cableways.
Day 3: Acclimatization in the Lake Titicaca.
Day 4: Trip to Sun Island and spend the night in the same place.
DAY 5: Transfer to the village of Sorata.
DAY 6: Transfer to camp on the outskirts of the community of Cocoyo
DAY 7: trekking Cocoyo to Chajolpaya (6 hours). Pass (4600)
Day 8: Trek Chajolpaya to Negruni, a step (4950). 4125msnm camp
Day 9: Trekking Negruni to Chearoco, short and easy day, no steps (5 hours).
DAY 10: Trekking from Chearoco to Janko Lucaya. long day with step 4850. (8 hours) Camp 4750msnm.
DAY 11: Lucaya Jancko trekking towards Khota tiya, a step of 5000msnm, (7 hours).
Day 12: trekking Khota Tiya to Ajuani Khota, short days, a step 4750msnm (5 hours).
DAY 13: Day of rest and energy replenishment for the next part of Trekk.
DAY 14: Trekking to Juri Khota Ajuani Khota, short day, 5 hours, with two steps 4900 and 5000 high aprox.
DAY 15: Trek Juri Khota to Base Camp Condoriri 7 hours. Optional step 5100. A summit of Pico Austria 5350msnm.
DAY 16: Trek Condoriri to Ancoma. Long day 8 hours, two steps 4900 and 4800, descend to 3800.
DAY 17: Trekk 1 hour to Zongo Platform and transfer to Camp Zongo, walk through surrounding Yungas.2400msnm header.
Day 18: Return to the city of La Paz and end of the expedition.
DAY 19: Free day.

Extension

The recommended trek after extension is the ascent to Huayna Potosi (6088)

This mountain climbing is not technical, the normal route is taken, all the safety equipment used high mountain.

It is 03 days and 02 nights.

DAY 1: Transfer to the base of Huayna Potosi (4700) field, training and equipment testing high mountain.

DAY 2: Walk toward the high field and overnight (5200)

DAY 3: Beginning 1:30 a.m. ascent to the summit (7 to 8 hours total), return to base camp (2 hours) and return to the city of La Paz.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: Arrival in the city of La Paz, transfer, hotel accommodation and briefing

This first day is very important to the briefing to clarify all doubts of travelers, check the equipment, give advice food, health, and as the trekking to develop.
The effects of altitude are often a problem that affects people coming from sea level, it is generally recommended to take Diamox 250mg every 12 hours (acetazolamide), 48 hours before coming to heights of over 3000m, it has some effects side. (consult your doctor).

DAY 2: City tour of La Paz, Main Square, cableways (d, bl)

This day we ride through the city of La Paz, where we will visit the famous Valley of Souls, a place with clay formations, erosion by wind and rain. Take the yellow cable car to have a view of the city from the heights, we will go into the mystical “witches market” know the history of Bolivia, in the main square, with its buildings; government palace parliament.

On a tour of 4 hours, we give a view of the craziest city in South America.

Day 3: Acclimatization on Lake Titicaca.

After breakfast, we have a 4-hour drive to the community of Copacabana, a town that is the most important religious center of the Andes. Where the syncretism of the Andean beliefs with the Catholic religion is combined into one.

Walks around and a short climb to Calvary 4100msnm, where we see a beautiful sunset over the mystic Titicaca.

Day 4: Trip to Sun Island and spend the night in the same place (d, a, c).

Sun Island, according to legend, the birthplace of the Inca Empire, we will have a one-hour trip by boat, sailing through the highest lake in the world to reach the island. We’ll walk around the south, visiting the ruins of Pilkokaina (Sun Temple), the steps of the Inka, accommodation is an Ecolodge.

We enjoy a traditional Andean lunch, and make an offering to the Pachamama (the universe and all its component) requesting permission for a good expedition.

Day 5: Transfer to Sorata (d, a).

This is a transition day, we return the boat back to Copacabana, once there, we had lunch and 3 hours in a private transport to the valley of Sorata (2600msnm). After accommodation, a short walk around and rest.

DAY 6: Transfer to camp on the outskirts of the community of Cocoyo (d, a, c).

A day shuttle after breakfast, ride in a vehicle off road, our trip is about 4 hours.

Where once in place, we assemble the shops, have lunch, and an afternoon break to continue our acclimatization.

DAY 7: trekking Cocoyo to Chajolpaya (6 hours) A step (4600) (d, a, c).

With a spectacular view of the Nevado Ch’iyar Juqhu, we start the first day of walking, gradually until the step 4650, then descend into a valley, crossed the place and return to walk uphill to the place of our second camp.

Altogether we will have about 6 hours of caminata.3 in the morning, an hour for our picnic lunch and continue in the afternoon 3 hours approx.

Day 8: Trek Chajolpaya to Negruni, a step (4950). 4125msnm camp. (D, a, c)

Second day of trekking, the way to passage, is a bit steep, but it gets gradually. (4950). very narrow trails and spectacular views of glaciers. Condors guarding their nests, will be the setting for this day.

After step descend, for about 2 hours and a half, seeing gaps born in glaciers.

I’ll camp in the valley, surrounded by small streams.

Day 9: Trekking Negruni to Ch'iyar Juqhu, short and easy day, no steps (5 hours).

Short day, the walk will be downstream, following the river Chiquini, according to many tourists, the stage on this day, it is very similar to the scene of the famous movie “The Lord of the Rings”. After lunch, a short walk to our next camp.

DAY 10: Ch'iyar Juqhu trekking towards Janko Lucaya. dayrgo a step 4850. (8 hours)

A long day with difficult terrain but the views spectacular again, step 4900, and a long way to the camp, a total of about 8 hours, ascents and descents. This will be the highest, 4800 camp near the pass, 5000msnm

DAY 11: Trekking Jancko Lacaya to Khota tiya, a step of 5000msnm, (7 hours).

Another day long journey, we reach the step after 2 hours and descend for about 2 hours too, then walked on a small road used for mining, surrounding lakes with blue and green colors, coming to our camp to rest after a long day. 7 hours approx.

Day 12: trekking Khota Tiya to Ajuani Khota, short days, a step 4750msnm (5 hours).

The walk is approx. 5 hours. A short day, with steep and rocky slopes, step 4850, and the rapid decline valley 1 hour, lunch on the banks of the lagoon Alkha Khota. And back to walk uphill to our camp, there is an old refuge, the place is especially cold, you can use the shelter for the night.

DAY 13: Day of rest and energy replenishment for the next part of Trek.

Perfect for grooming day, a good rest and a nap outdoors.

DAY 14: Trekking to Juri Khota Ajuani Khota, short day, 5 hours, with two steps 4900 and 5000 high aprox

Met first step after 2 hours, descend to the valley and take the second step, the steps are quite steep, but the terrain is accessible. From this day with us, the imposing Kunturiri, named for the way it has, a condor with open wings. The camp 4650msnm, Jurikhota lakeshore and overlooking the next challenge, Pico Austria

DAY 15: Trek Juri Khota to Base Camp Condoriri 7 hours. Optional step 5100. A summit of Pico Austria 5350msnm.

One of the hightlights of this trekk, walk near the glacier of the Condor, from the pass, we can see the top of the famous Pico Austria, challenging, tempt us to the summit, their access is not difficult or technical, and will be the point highest of the whole trip. Then we descend to our camp on the banks of the lagoon Chiarkhota 4700msnm. perfect place for night shots.

DAY 16: Trek Condoriri to Ancoma. Long day 8 hours, two steps 4900 and 4800, descend to 3600.

The longest day of our trekk. Two steep steps, a part of Inca Trail, lagoons and many adventures awaits us this day, after 8 hours, we arrive at camp 3600, located in a valley with unique landscapes.

DAY 17: Trekk 1 hour to Zongo Platform and transfer to Camp Zongo, walk through surrounding Yungas.2400msnm header.

After 1 hour walk, we take our private transport to reach the camp Zongo, where we see the contrast of the mountains and the head of Yungas (rainforest) .a day of relaxation and rest 2400msnm.Una evening campfire to dismiss the trekk and very good food

Day 18: Return to the city of La Paz and end of the expedition.
DAY 19: Free day.
Extention.- 03 days and 02 nights

Huayna Potosi It is the most popular 6000msnm mountain, climbing by its characteristics, and there are high camp shelters. It requires prior acclimatization to make peaks without any problems. The physical demands and mind control play important role in achieving this challenge. The climbing is basically divided into two parts, small shovel (2 hours and a half) a 20 meters crevasse, and large (2 hours) shovel in the normal route, the descent will be 2 hours, to a high-camp, and 1 ½ to base camp.

DAY 1: Transfer to the base of Huayna Potosi (4700) base camp, training and equipment testing high mountain. Crampons, ropes, helmet, iceaxe.

DAY 2: Walk toward the high camp and overnight (5200), the walk is about 3 hours. At normal-slow pace. The mountain shelter has beds. Porters carry heavy equipment, approx. 10 to 12 kilos per pax. A light dinner and rest.

DAY 3: Beginning 1:30 a.m. ascent to the summit (8 to 9 hours in total, up and down), return to base camp and return to the city of La Paz.
